Pastor's Message for February 19, 2022

Updated: February 25, 2022

“…I will pour out my Spirit on all people…And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved…”

                                    Joel 2: 28-32 NIV

Dear Members and Friends of the Harrisburg First Seventh-day Adventist Church,

The book of Acts is the story of how the church continued what Jesus started. This was accomplished through the work of the Holy Spirit, so some have said that the book should be titled “The Acts of the Holy Spirit.” Jesus instructed the disciples to wait for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to receive power to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. They obeyed Jesus implicitly and waited together in prayer:

“The disciples prayed with intense earnestness for a fitness to meet [people] and in their daily [conversations] to speak words that would lead sinners to Christ. . . . They did not ask for a blessing for themselves merely. They were weighted with the burden of [the divine passion for] the salvation of souls. They realized that the gospel was to be carried to the world, and they claimed the power that Christ had promised.” (Acts of the Apostles, p. 37)

They prayed for the promise, embraced the passion, and practiced the power. It is my hope that we will do the same.
